Top tips for agents starting out:

*Do good, good works

*It’s about service experience

*You have got to be a nice person, so work on yourself first and once you get yourself right everything else will fall into place

*You cannot be a nice person when you are with a client who is about to list with you and someone you can potentially make money from, but then be a mean person to a tenant who “doesn’t own a home and can’t help me anyway”. Be a nice and decent person all the time, to everyone, and have no agendas. Be a decent person because that’s who you are. It’s in the giving that we receive and in the giving that we feel fulfilled.

*People like to deal with people who really give a damn. People first want to know how much you care, and secondly how good you are.

*I was told to just give your business card to every single person you come across, and I say No, No, No! Be passionate about what you do and live with the mentality of how I may serve, rather than where my next commission cheque is going to come from. When you live by the servant mentality long term, you will do well financially anyway.

*Treat people like people, not as buyers or sellers or tenants or landlords. Treat them like people and look after them. You have got to be brilliant at what you do, of course it’s great to have the servants attitude as that will open a lot of doors for you, but you have got to be good in the game. The difference between a great agent and a not so good agent could be $100,000 to the bottom line, you will also need to be able to deliver.

*For young people, don’t get into real estate because you think it’s glamorous or its easy. It’s really about building communities, becoming the best, and helping people realise their real estate goals.
